Disgrunted final year student...

Was forced to take a break of 2 weeks from FYP due to the CNY, and tons of FYP, Masters & PhD students waiting to use the 1001st milling machine in my lab.

I'm not sure if I'm mistaken or not but hey, NTU EEE school has got one of the largest student population in the campus, and there's only ONE freaking milling machine to cater to SO MANY people who need to fabricate their boards to save their lives?

Ok, for the record, there used to be 2 milling machines in my lab, but one of it was spoiled for 431 days (or maybe more than that) and I see no replacement for it at the end of the tunnel.

Is NTU really that poor to spend some money to buy just one replacement milling machine?

Recently, i have noticed that there are plenty of cute posters around the campus, trying to psycho people into believing that everyone should try to give (money) to their alma mater as alumini members.

The initial thought i had was:
How shameless can the school be? NTU had the money to blow on 300 Aeron Miller category chairs (worth roughly) $2200 each for the golden asses of the NBS staff, and now they are trying to milk the money from the alumini to fund excesses in the school? Well, everyone has their own definition of wat is excessive, and apparently i'm not on the same wavelength as the staff. Read the below url for more details.

But after today then i realized, they REALLY NEED to get more money, cos poor EEE labs dun have the money to buy 1 more milling machine to feed the battalions of deprived FYP, Msc & PhD students.

For the record, we need more money to build more canteens in school, repair the NTUSU van that decided to take a stroll in our nice Yunnan Garden, more air-conditioned halls (well, they can recoup from the rental fees for this) and so on.

Oh ya, the school really badly needs a fresh coat of paint, which is ongoing now. (at least this is worthwhile)

(I heard from my fren that MAE has a lot of milling machines... )

Anyway, back to my FYP.
Finally got to use the milling machine today after waiting for so long, and I spent the entire day in the lab to ensure that the milling machine works properly throughout the miling process, cos we only had 1 board, so must make sure its correct.

Stayed in the lab from 0930 to 1830 just for this, and to me and my partner's horror, the measurements of final output of the differs from the one that we had originally designed.

So conclusion: Gotta fight fire tomorrow morning. so sianz to have wasted an entire day like that. I even skipped 2 tutorials for this. Damned.

It is CNY… again

In the past, I had never really enjoyed having a crowd over at my home on Chinese New Year. Had always felt it was troublesome and noisy. But my mindset has changed a bit this year.

Went to Dilong’s place on the second day. It was really crowded with his relatives, and our guys (though we all cramped into Dilong’s room and they gambled their time away).

Spent the 3rd day afternoon at Mrs Yeo’s place again. But I brought along dear to let my 2nd mum give her stamp of approval. It was quite a crowd over there too. With the usual suspects who turned up every year, plus the few gals who were also quite attached to “mum” too. Adrian and me were the only ones who brought along their significant others, with Hua Qiang promising to do the same the next year.

Then as usual, YQ, JS, Bek and XL moved over to my place for “Fo Tiao Qiang”. It felt better to have some frens over at home to liven up the place. Otherwise to have an empty home full of untouched new year goodies really feels quite bad.

Be Thankful that you have to clear up the mess after a party, for it means that you still have friends celebrating with you…

Guess I’m really getting old….
